The rain poured heavy for an hour this afternoon and, as I checked my office window, I got zero visibility of Makati and Manila.  The same window where the Makati CBD is very visible when the sky is clear.  Then a question pops from my head. What stops people from what ever plans they have to go out of their house for the day? It could only be Rain! 

But this is not true to Iglesia Ni Cristo (Church of Christ) members.  To us the rain is just a rain.  It never restrains us from attending our activity such us our Grand Evangelical Mission tomorrow, 28^th of February, 2012 at 5:00 P.M.  I won't be surprised if millions of people will gather in the stretch of Manila starting from the Quirino Grandstand which I predict would occupy the most of the Luneta Park up to

Taft Avenue

and minor streets nearby.  I won't even be surprised if they start gathering as early as the sun rises tomorrow!

We are Iglesia Ni Cristo after all, for us it is a way of life to serve God and Glorify him by inviting non believers to attend our Bible Exposition and teach them the Words of God.  It is inherent to us to spread our religious beliefs however unconventional or controversial it is to others.  What is important to us is it is what is written in the bible.  It is God's message to His chosen few!  And as few as the sands from the shore that you can grief in your hand, is the ones God will save on Judgment Day.

Most of our invitees are there to hear our church's beliefs and God's bible teachings.  They also get pleased hearing the choir singing Christian Hymns to glorify God.  But what gets them in awe is the holy spirit pouring from each holy words uttered by the chorister and the minister officiating the prayers and lesson.

At the end we impart to them not just the knowledge learned in each bible exposition but the spiritual belief and the fate.  It is then up to each guest to decide whether to pursue their bible studies and be a part of the church eventually.

RAIN or shine, tomorrow is a big day for Iglesia Ni Cristo not just in Quirino Grandstand but to key cities nationwide. To GOD be the Glory!!!!

INC Unity Games - Running Tips for Beginners

In preparation for the up coming INC Unity Games Fun Run tomorrow we asked a runner friend of ours Pamela "Pam" Petinez  how to prepare for a run.  She gamely answered back and give us tips that is surely handy:

1. Be prepared, dapat nakapag-train kayo kahit papaano. Mas mahirap pag walang training sa first timers. Pero kung wala talagang time for training, wag nio na lang po masyadong biglain ung pagtakbo, EASY RUN na lang po ang gawin nio (slow run after passing the starting line)

2. More or le...ss, dapat nakakain kayo (wag carbo, high-fiber, caffeine, and high fat food). Wag kayo tatakbo na walang laman ang tiyan nio, dahil di kayo makakatakbo ng maayos, nakakaubos ng energy and may tendency na sumakit ung tummy part. Wag masyado mabibigat na food. The best food to eat, BANANA, ENERGY CEREAL, YOGURT and HYDRATION DRINK like GATORADE or POWERADE or WATER.

‎3. Before running, WARM-UP EXERCISE is a must. Stretching, slow running before the race can make your heart rate raise and prepares you for more intense activity.

4. GUN START – starting time. DON’T FORGET to set your stopwatch or personal ...watch to get your PERSONAL RECORD (PR).

5. Always have WATER para po if ever na kinakapos na kayo ng energy or ma-dehydrate kayo ay meron kayo maiinom agad. Madaling ma-gain un sa pag-inom ng water or hydration drinks.

6. After finishing the race, HUWAG NA HUWAG KAYO PAHINGA AGAD or UMUPO agad dahil sa napagod kayo. Have yourself, a COOL-DOWN (taking a rest after passing the finish line ) activity, 5 minutes would be okay. ie. walking for a certain period of time, stretching, etc. , to help recover more quickly.

When love was blind - Summary

Eunice is a girl who is having a relationship with Alquin – a certified playboy, but still she opted to stick with him no matter what.  Eunice thought her edge over the other girls is that she and Alquin are in the same religion and knowing how conservative their religion is he will be more serious with their relationship.  One by one, Alquin discontinued his relationship with other girls and it made her more secured.  Until one day, before the semester ends, Alquin called and tells Eunice she needs to talk to someone.  That someone is Edna – Alquin’s long time childhood sweetheart whom he is seriously having a relationship and like the other girls Eunice was being dumped too.  Having her pride and own self esteem in tacked, she lets him go without even bothering to fight for their love.  She felt defeated knowing that the girl is always with him.

In all of this, Eunice friend Alain watches by and comforts her.  To Alain she is deeply inlove with Alquin and time will heal her fragile heart’s wounds.  Alain is always there by her side every free time they have they share with each other’s company.  Everyone observes the dedication Alain have for Eunice but they both never bothered to notice.  Alain thought she is still nurturing her old flame for Alquin and Eunice thought he is interested with another girl, Belle.  Belle even asked Eunice tips on how she can get noticed by the elusive Alain and Eunice even bothered to push Belle to her bestfriend.  According to Belle, one time when Alain went to watch a movie with their friends with out Eunice, Belle over heared Alain and Jojo discussing something. It seems that Jojo is giving Alain a push to court Belle since they are seated beside each other at that time. Hearing this story, Eunice thought that she is doing her best pal Alain a favor and helped Belle get noticed.

However, Alain who gives in to Eunice and the rest of his friends demand to finally court the girl he loves, shocked and embarrassed Eunice.  Alain decided to admit his feelings not for Belle but for Eunice.  Eunice felt a lump in her throat and had to swallow hard before the very thought sinks in.  However, Eunice cannot hide her happiness that it is she - her best friend really wants.  After all Alain is not just being elusive he is one of the best catch in their group.   With a baritone voice that can sweep away any girl, a good physic thanks to their regular swimming activity and a very intelligent mind that even she admits is beyond her own.

But how about Belle?  Although Eunice cannot just give up on Alain now that he confessed his feelings she does not want to get Belle hurt, hence she is willing to sacrifice their love altogether.  Not knowing what to do Eunice asked Jojo for advise.  It was at that time that she found out that Alain and Jojo were not discussing Belle all along.  Instead, at the time Belle was eavesdropping, they were talking about Alain's feelings towards Eunice.  Jojo observes Eunice and Alain daily -  holding hands everytime they are together, gazing each other as if they are the only person in the world,  sharing and putting food in each other’s plates; but still tells everyone they are the best of pal.  This makes Jojo play cupid and urges Alain to open his blinded eyes to reality.

Now Eunice has no choice but to admit to Belle her mistakes and the misunderstandings.  Although Belle got hurt and felt deceived finding out about Eunice and Alain, she decided to just leave them be and be happy for them.  By that time Eunice and Alain eventually decided to give in to their true feelings and show their love for each other.

Perfect Match a review

Is all about Park Gae In (Julliane) a furniture designer whose trust was betrayed by her bestfriend/roommate (Kim In hee) and boyfriend (Hang Chang Ryeol).  In hee was so envious of her that she wants to get all the things that makes her happy including her boyfriend Chang Ryeol who falls out of love because of her trusting and complacent nature.  She was hurt by the  betrayal since his boyfriend broke up with her on the night before his wedding and to top it all, she only found out that her best friend is going to get wed to her boyfriend on the day of the wedding itself.

The day before the wedding Gae In had the misfortune of meeting an arrogant guy in the person of Jeon Jin Ho.  Jeon Jin Ho (Gino) is an architect who is driven to succeed in competing with Hang Chang Ryeol and his father who uses a lot of scheming and lobbying to win projects for the company that used to be owned by Jeon Jin Ho’s late father.   

Gae In and Jin Ho get to each other’s nerves in their first meeting to put it short and annoyed each other terribly.  However, the two of them was in a situation both cannot escape.  Gae In needs to rent out the room her best friend vacates after incurring a large sum of debt with her house Sangojae as collateral.  Jin ho’s business on the other hand is in the brink of bankruptcy if he fails to get the Design and Arts Arcadia of Myungseung project which he found out was originally offered to Gae In’s father with Sangojae as model. When Jin Ho founds out that Gae in is renting out a room in Sangojae, he offered to rent the place.  With not wanting his father’s disapproval upon knowing her situation Gae In agreed to let Jin Ho rent the room after all her new roommate is a Gay or so she thinks.

Perfect Match, also known as Personal Preference and Personal Taste, stars Boys Before Flowers’ Lee Min Ho and actress Son Ye Jin. The drama is based on a novel called Personal Preference written by Jae In Lee.

This is a very funny feel good drama series airing in ABS-CBN in the Philippines weekdays at 10:30 pm.  If you want to be in love or once more remember how it is to be young and in love, then this is for you.

Where is Eraño Manalo Avenue?

In honor of the late Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC) head, an ordinance upon approval of the Quezon City government last October 18, 2010 was issued renaming Central Avenue to Eraño G. Manalo Avenue.

The ordinance changing the street’s name to honor the late INC leader is in recognition of “his greatness and nobility” in leading the powerful religious group, Quezon City Council said.

In approving ordinance number SP-1961, S-2009, Quezon City Council Majority Floor Leader Ariel Inton said it is only proper to bestow honor to the late Iglesia ni Cristo Executive Minister for playing a significant role in the development of Christianity and for propagating the teaching of universal love.

Inton said Brother Eraño Manalo was an indispensable partner in community development, promoting human relations and strengthening the moral fiber of the society.

“It is only befitting to use his name on a street where motorists and pedestrians from all over Metro Manila and from different parts of the country can remember him for his good deeds,’’ Inton said.

The Iglesia ni Cristo central office complex, a large secured complex is a landmark situated in Eraño G. Manalo Avenue, New Era, Quezon City, Philippines and is the seat of the INC's Central Administration. In addition to the six-story central office building there are six other major edifices and several buildings. The major buildings include the 7,000-seat Central Temple, the multi-purpose Tabernacle Hall, the 30,000-seat central pavilion, the College of Evangelical Ministry, and the New Era General Hospital. In 1968, Eraño Manalo moved the central office from the chapel on Riverside Street, San Juan, Metro Manila to its present location. The INC acquired several hectares of land and in the next forty years transformed the area to what it is today.

My Mom's Famous Cooking

It is hard to eat out when your mom is well known for her cooking and you were brought up tasting good food.

For starters, I remember feasting on saucy dishes during lunch on weekends - Kare Kare, Mechado, Kaldereta, Afritada, Menudo, Adobo, etc. - with so much gusto.

Fact is, the dish is yummier if it is reheated several times already. If we have fried fish on the table, then there must be vegetables too - Chop Suey; Pinakbet; Guinataang Laing, Langka or Sitaw at Kalabasa; Guinisang Sayote, Repolyo or Baguio Beans, ahhhh no wonder I got so fat... :)

During festive seasons, the usual entrée would include Morcon, Paella, Rellenong Bangus (Stuffed Milked Fish), Embutido, Barbeque, Grilled Pusit, Kare Kare (the family favorite), Sisig, Crispy Pata, Lechon Kawali (Macao), Sweet and Sour or Steamed Lapu Lapu. Although most of the time we don't have to plan the menu... we just have to go with the flow and prepare extra servings of what was ordered by friends and neighbours for their own party.

Ofcourse, her pansit (noodles) are superb that some times I'll skip my co-employees treat of Pansit Bihon, Canton, Sotanghon, Lomi, Palabok, Malabon or Luglog since it is always in the table for snack at home. Would you believe my co-employees would compare her Lasagna with those served in Italian Resto? I never tasted Spaghetti from fast food chains since my family recipe surpass them all... I want mine with boiled eggs aside from the cheese in it and I never forget the taste of my great grand aunt's which includes chicken on red sauce aside from the meat balls.

Then, there is her famous desserts like Ube Yam, Leche Flan, Brownies, Bibingka, Maja Blanca, Puto and the likes. Anyone who knows her had surely enjoyed a taste of her cooking prowess. All the foods she serves are guaranteed fresh from the oven and reasonably priced. So if you are having an occasion or just want to eat for no reason try our home cook dishes.
